Pakistan's soaring rates of 'diabetic foot'

Around 150,000 to 200,000 Pakistanis lose a limb due to complications from diabetes every year, according to estimates.
The vast majority of amputations can be prevented through early treatment, but poor healthcare and a lack of awareness means that for many in Pakistan, it's not possible to save the leg.

I am a Microbiologist in making (just one year left) and unfortunately, had to endure the healthcare system that is Pakistan.

They don't even do culture and sensitivity tests, in an age where antibiotic resistance is a serious problem, the doctors here look at you strange if you ask for culture and sensitivity unless you are on your deathbed!.

So no wonder people are losing their limbs to diabetes - a disease which makes you prone to antibiotic resistant bacteria anyway
