Compensation announced

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday announced a one-step upward promotion for the martyred policeman and announced a Rs10 million compensation, two jobs, continuation of salary till his superannuation.

He also announced Rs5m for the three martyred security guards and a job in police for each family.
I also urged the PSX and the concerned bank whose security guards lost their lives to match the compensation,” he said.

He made the announcement while addressing a special ceremony organised at the Central Police Office (CPO) to pay tribute to the policemen and security guards who laid down their lives and sustained multiple injuries while foiling Monday’s attack.

Mr Shah announced Rs500,000 financial assistance for seven policemen who sustained injuries while fighting the terrorists.

He said that the attack on the PSX might have caused us more loss than the attack on World Trade Centre by Osama Bin Laden. “Credit goes to the Sindh government which made recruitments in the police purely on merit, otherwise this bravery and timely action against the terrorists might have not taken place,” he said.

He said that the terrorists who attacked PSX had come from another province.

Earlier, the chief minister, Information Minister Nasir Shah and Inspector General of Police Mushtaq Mahar offered dua at the memorial built at the CPO to keep the memories of brave policemen who laid down their lives in the line of duty alive.

Replying to a question, the chief minister said that the provincial government was collecting withholding tax on behalf of the federal government.

“If the federal government wants the provincial government to collect any tax they [Fed govt] would have to formally request the provincial government and then the decision would be taken in consultation with our cabinet,” he said, adding that the provincial government was ready to serve the federal government within the ambit of the Constitution of Pakistan.

To a question, the chief minister said that the unilateral deduction of withholding tax on vehicles by the federal government was unconstitutional.

“Despite our repeated request and letter the deducted amount has not been returned so far,” he lamented.

Talking about the salary structure of the Sindh police, the chief minister said it was better than the policemen of the other provinces.

Replying to a question about the lockdown, the CM said that his government could not impose it unilaterally. “Now, Eidul Azha is approaching and on this Eid virus may take a new turn of highs, if this kind of approach and attitude are continued then the virus would not die down in Pakistan even if it is eliminated in the rest of the world,” he said.

‘Sindh can’t justify allocating Rs4b funds for luxury cars’

The Supreme Court has said that the decision of the Sindh government to allocate funds worth Rs4 billion for the purchase of luxury vehicles such as Vigo and Prado for the use of the government employees is “not justifiable”.

The provincial government “has not allocated any funds for the development schemes in the province generally and for the city of Karachi particularly,” it said in an order on the coronavirus suo motu case issued on Friday.

The Sindh government has made an allocation of about Rs100 billion for non-development purposes in its budget.”We are at a loss to understand how and under what provision of law this has been done. The Sindh government already possesses a large number of vehicles for its
employees.”

Media has been raising the issue of cleaning the Gujjar storm drain in Karachi. The start of the monsoon season is “seriously threatening the people of Karachi”. The city’s drains have not been cleaned which is likely to “lead to flooding and spread of diseases”. The city government says there no funds to clean the drains. “The Sindh Government needs to arrange funds for cleaning of the drains to save citizens from hardship and disease during the monsoon season.”

The court also spoked about the lack of water and electricity in Karachi. Load-shedding up to 18 hours has been reported in different areas. “These extreme hardships are playing havoc with the lives of people and their right to life, which is a fundamental right is being denied to them”.

It is not justifiable to allocate Rs4 billion funds for import of luxury vehicles. The province needs to “allocate funds towards education, health, water supply, infrastructure development and safety of people”. The Sindh government has been restrained from spending the said amount on the vehicles.

On Locusts

The court remarked that the NDMA has procured “air crafts, equipment vehicles and chemicals/pesticides from abroad, and is making all efforts to subdue to the effect of locusts in Pakistan”.

“We note that four Beaver air crafts which belong to the Plant Protection Department, are still not operational for the reason that pilots to fly them are not available”. It has now been said that the Ministry of Food Security has recruited pilots who are under training and will start operating the aircraft soon. Out of four Beaver Planes, three are meant to spray pesticides while one is retained for providing training to the pilots, the order added.

Measures to be taken for shaheeds are defined in the service details. Na-murad has not done anything out of protocol. He is just trying to take 'credit' for whats already defined. Yeh bakwas hur politician karta aya hai.

When was the last time you heard of army shaheeds compensation being announced in papers for laying their lives in the line of duty?
