JF-17 block 2 engine is very weak and Malaysia can't consider it. If block 3 has a better upgraded and more powerful engine then this can change. Just for comparison, J-10 is also considered a light combat aircraft but it's thrust output is almost twice that of jf-17.

Tejas is best in the world of course, as long as you're pitching it against spy kites and balloons from Pakistan.

Also Malaysia may have some objections in terms of Chinese presence in JF17 project since they don't exactly have very close relations with the Chinese. They have in the past been cooperating with India with Sukhoi SU-30 training and maintenance. Though they do use Baktar Shikan so it remains to be seen whether they would go for JF17 or the Indian lobby or something else will prevent it.

First Indian Navy and later IAF refused to purchase and induct Tejas that is y they bought SU30 and now dying for Rafael.

Which Malaysian high defence officials are present? I only see Mahatir and saw a bit of his foreign minister. Can't see Malaysian defence minister either.

According to reports Block 3 might have WS13 engine. Although its more powerful, its still weak compared to J-10 engine.

J-10 uses a Russian Saturn engine, same one which is used in SU-30 that Malaysia is using. It means that SU-30 has 3.5 times more power than Jf-17.

China is currently making WS-10 engine for J-10 which is more powerful than WS-13. PAF should get that engine in JF-17 to able to get into the light combat airplane market.

JF-17 is based on the mig-21 platform so currently it is a good replacement for Mig-21s, F-5, older mirages etc. But its not a replacement for F-16s, Gripens, dual engine Migs etc because of low range, armament and speed.

Mig-21 was a very popular plane when it came out but I think the world has moved on from ultra light jet aircraft due to larger more sophisticated radars, weapons and mission requirements.
