Imran Khan received Rs 40 mn from Musharraf: PPP leader

Lahore, Jan 28 (PTI) A leader of the ruling Pakistan People's Party has alleged that cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan received Rs 40 million from former military ruler Pervez Musharraf during the 2002 referendum that validated the general's regime, a charge denied by his party.

"Khan charged Rs 40 million from Gen Musharraf as he was at the forefront of moves to establish the dictator's rule," said Raja Riaz, a top PPP leader and Senior Minister in the coalition government in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Riaz said Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf party, had got his relatives employed in the Pakistan Cricket Board during Musharraf's regime.

"Musharraf obliged Khan for his support," he said.

Khan always talks about democracy but was in fact conspiring against it, Riaz alleged.

Khan's party denied Riaz's allegations and said it would take him to court over the issue.

Pakistan Tehreek I Insafs Central Information Secretary Omar Sarfarz Cheema vehemently rebutted the baseless and ridiculous allegations leveled against PTI Chairman Imran Khan by Senior Minister Punjab Raja Riaz Ahmad. He was addressing a press conference today alongwith admiral (rtd) javed iqbal,Nadeem qadir bhinder and mian khalid, Omar Cheema categorically dismissed the allegations of Imran Khan receiving money from Pervez Musharaf for extending support during the Presidential referendum and seeking jobs for his kith and kin during the dictatorial regime.


Omar Cheema described Raja Riazs allegations against Imran Khan as false, frivolous and a pack of lies. He asked raja riaz to retract his malicious statements within 24 hours and tender an unconditional and public apology to Imran Khan, failing which, he shall get sued for defamation and damages worth Rupees 1 Billion. He decried the reign of corruption and misrule unleashed on the hapless nation by PPP and advised Raja Riaz to put his own house in order and correct the course of actions instead of slandering a national icon, who has earned the love and admiration of the masses through decades of national service and personal sacrifice. Imran Khan represented Pakistan with pride as a super star, established the first ever Cancer Hospital for the poor masses, set up a state of the art University in one of the most backward areas of the country and he is the only upright political leader in Pakistans political arena. He further said that including chairman Imran Khan other leadership of PTI faced jails and persecution, Mr.imran khan turned down the offer of Prime Ministership but never compromised on principles and refused to strike any deal for personal gains. Imran Khan spearheaded the struggle for democracy and independent judiciary while both ppp and pml-n leadership were in self exile.

He should also have a detailed textile,argiculture,export,and import policy before he takes office. I think some brothers in the MQM hate him because he was very out spoken against MQM and Ataf. We need to stop this madness and get behind this man. He needs to win 70 percent or so majority so that he can change the constitution of pakistan.But all that in 2 years inshallah. Another malicious attempt to tarnish the image of Imran by the inept and unscrupulous political mafias of this country and this time the honours goes to the incompetent & undisciplined leadership of PPP. If this buffoon Raja Riaz has any substantive evidence in this regard then he should represent that with proper documentary proof in front of the media instead of relying on hearsay and speculation. Yes it is surprising as one friend above has rightly mentioned that would that have been the case then Musharraf was wise enough to surface such charges at that time when he was facing the powerful resistance from Imran and his (Musharrafs) other political opponents towards the twilight years of his government. PPP has steeped to such low levels which is the prime evidence of the rotten political elite of this country that whenever they get under pressure from its political opponents they start to malign and slur against them with or without any comprehensive and credible evidence.




PPPs strategy is somehow looking to take some definite shape now that they have decided to take the offensive against any of their political opponents be its mafia org MQM, PML-N, Pak Army and higher judiciary. This lethal strategy would definitely result in the dissolution of its government quicker than its anticipated by the political analysts. Unfortunately any of Pakistans political powers havent learned their lessons from their past blunders and they are still willing to follow the same route of defiance, moral and financial corruption, bad governance and confrontational attitude towards the other power brokers of the state. PPPs leadership should learn to manoeuvre intelligently in such sort of crises and they dont have to open many fronts at one time since their performance is in doldrums and therefore they should act wisely. In todays Pakistan any of the political party which is on the helm of affairs or will come to this position in the near future would have to improve its performance and only on that basis there can think of any stability and endurance of their rule otherwise no matter how good they are in the confrontational style of governance they will suffer the same fate at the hands of those forces, which traditionally holds the main switch of the power supply of Pakistan, as their predecessor political forces have suffered in the last six decades.
