The complaint stated that her posts were nothing but “a threat to the integrity of the nation” and were aimed at “harming the morale of the security forces in Kashmir”.
Aligarh: The Uttar Pradesh Police has registered an FIR against a professor at Aligarh Muslim University over his posts on social media on Kashmir, allegedly ‘hurting the morale of security forces’ in the Valley.

The post was termed “inappropriate” in the FIR, in which the assistant professor, whose husband works as a journalist in Kashmir, made references to the clampdown on communication in the Valley following the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.

“Sach mein sampark toot jana kitna khatarnak aur dukhad hota hai, chahe Chandrayaan ho ya Kashmir,” her post said on the "pain" caused by losing contact, whether it is Chandrayaan or Kashmir.

The professor was making reference to the Indian Space Research Organisation’s mission to soft land Vikram lander of Chandrayaan 2 on the dark side of the moon’s surface. The mission was unsuccessful as Vikram hard-landed within 500 metres from the landing site and lost contact.

A Hindu Mahasabha leader had filed a complaint on November 14 over the posts. Ashok Pandey had in his complaint claimed that the post meant that the professor “did not consider Kashmir an integral part of India”.

The lady, 34-year-old Huma Parveen, teaches mass communication at AMU and has been booked under Sections 153-A and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, under the charges of promoting enmity between different groups, according to news agency PTI.

The complaint further stated that her posts were nothing but “a threat to the integrity of the nation” and were aimed at “harming the morale of the security forces in Kashmir”.

Parliament of India on August 6 approved a Bill to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution of India, stripping the state of Jammu and Kashmir of its special status and dividing the state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir (with a Legislative Assembly), and Ladakh (without a Legislative Assembly), which came into effect from October 31, 2019.
