Don't you think you reaction, though understandable, is a little out of proportion? A conservative society, as we are, has always low acceptance for unconventional thing/events/ideas as we are not used to hearing and digesting such talk from a female member in a chauvinistic and patriarchal society wherein weaker sex is expected to 'behave'. Would u have reacted in a similar way, e.g. had a boy made a similar suggestion/request to a girl/woman from showbiz?

This is not the matter of male chauvinism, it is a matter of the norms that prevail in a particular society. Good or bad, but these things are not acceptable in our society and I think there is no harm to be stuck with these kinds of practices that a society imposes on its members.
If we don't follow these smaller restrictions and if we take them light or we just criticize them, then we will be ending up one day in a place where western world has fallen into.
Getting marry on her own will is a basic right of a woman, but announcing it vocally on TV shows is against our values. This act is indecent no matter the caller was joking or serious.
The same goes for a boy caller too.

Just one small comment: Don't u think sticking with something without a decision over it being good or bad is illogical? I don't have an issue if a society imposes its value in a uniform manner without any gender discrimination.

Good or bad means the choice of an individual's wish. Something I like, might not be for you or vice versa.
Logic doesn't work here. If you like it then take it else leave it. But we all have to live within the perimeter of the society. If we don't respect our social values then we will be living in a jungle. Yes, our society needs a lot of improvement, but that is not our point here at the moment, we are discussing how we should behave as an individual. Simple example, will I like if my child (son or daughter) does the same thing what that caller (in this case a girl) did over a national TV show? Of course not.

Your response raises many points. Let us take them one by one.

1) Ultimately it is the moral code a society follows which benchmarks something as good or bad. In a Muslim society, Islam provides that moral code. So, it does not work as per the wish of an individual though individual has a choice between good and bad.

2) I think I have shown in the above that logic can work here.

3) Perimeter of a society is not something ingrained in stone. There is evolution going on all the time. Seemingly bad parameters of that perimeter need to be changed/reformed.

4) Social values are also mostly derived from the dominant moral code. If they are fundamentally and essentially in conflict that moral code they should be consciously change/reformed through a gradual/incremental process.

5) I have already addressed 'how we should behave as an individual' in a society in all the above.
