New Delhi, Jan 20 : In a new opinion poll, Afghans have rated India as the most favourable foreign country in Afghanistan and have rejected a role for Pakistan in their country.

The opinion poll, not by an indian agency but commissioned by BBC, ABC and German TV ARD, also shows a sharp decline in support for the Taliban.

According to the findings, 71 percent of more than 1,500 Afghans questioned endorsed India's multifarious role in the reconstruction of the strife-torn country.

India was followed by Germany (59 percent), the US (51 percent), Iran (50 percent) and Britain (39 percent). Pakistan was found to be the least popular country, with only two percent of Afghans viewing its role favourably.

India has pledged $1.3 billion for a wide array of reconstruction activities ranging from education to building roads, bridges, power stations to digging tubewells, and grassroot development projects.

This broad sweep of developments projects has earned India enormous goodwill among ordinary Afghans.

The poll decisively rebuffs Pakistan's oft-voiced propaganda pitch that India's growing profile in Afghanistan was part of the problem, and not the solution.

The survey was conducted in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan between Dec 11-23, 2009. It's based on in-person interviews with a random national sample of 1,534 Afghan adults during that period.

The results have a 3-point error margin. The field work has been done by the Afghan Center for Socio-Economic and Opinion Research (ACSOR) in Kabul.

The poll also found Afghans increasingly optimistic about the future of their country.

Months after the second Hamid Karzai government was formed in Kabul following a closely contested election, 70 percent said they believed Afghanistan was going in the right direction - a sharp increase from 40 percent a year ago.

The poll also brought to the fore the growing unpopularity of the Taliban in Afghanistan with only six percent of people polled saying they favoured a Taliban administration. Ninety percent said they wanted their country run by the current government.

India does not build international relations on the basis of religion, its dumb people who cant see anything without the stupid religion glasses. India has broadly very good relations with international community irrespective of their culture. Specifically India's ties with Afghanistan and Iran are historic and ever lasting in nature.

--Quite strange [funnny] ,didn't get along well at all just couple of decades ago  infact had full throttle to sabotage the very existence of the neighbouring Afghanistan  imbeciles try to put behind the hatred possessed by the very elite fundamental hindu parties running the show in india against muslims and it would be again pretty moronic/insensible for anybody to disregard such a fact :ugeek:

I would repeat the same thing which I said in earlier threads, India should look at its own internal affairs as there are a lot of very poor and sick people on their pavements who need alot of care and attention and the $1.5bn they have 'pledged' for Afghanistan will be better spent on repair of some of their slums. They should indeed stop dreaming of becoming a super power as they simply do not fit the bill since China is already filling that position. This Zionist agenda only leads to destruction. These polls don't mean anything as they were carried out by westerners for their own benifit.

If the poll is correct and Afghans living in their own country or Pakistan participated in this poll then let's ship all Afghans living in Pakistan to India.

This will be a win-win situation for both Afghans and Pakistanis !

It will end all Pakistan problems and put India back to stoneage.May be hindus need to realize once US is gone they will be hunted like dogs on the streets.

It should not have been that surprising that due to the evil policies of Pakistani establishment in this region since 1979s invasion of Russians till now has antagonised the large chunks of Afghans and especially the Pashtuns the most who were traditionally the allies and supporters of Pakistani establishment pre October 2001. Thanks to the wonderful policies of our commander army chief after the drama of 9/11 to support the American led crusade against the Muslim world in the first phase by providing the logistical, intelligence and armed operations to the Americans and its allies in Afghanistan and its adjacent bordering areas of FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas).

Secondly this report is devoid of many basic points which are related to any quantitative analysis of the poll. Like the orientation and size of the samples (How much Pashtuns were selected in the controlled areas of NATO apart from the other communities which are traditionally allies of Indians and therefore are sworn enemies of Pashtuns and Talibans in the recent past) the types of questionnaires distributed to the research teams and controlling the bias in such questionnaires are some of the prime basic things which this report would have entertained in this publication. More importantly the report is also silent on the views of those inhabitants of the area which are now under the command & control of Talibans (Many reports in the western media also corroborates that it has risen to more than 70% territory of Afghanistan where Taliban militia is ruling now) and therefore by just picking the small sample of some selected areas of that country cant perfectly portrays the true feelings of Afghans against the different forces operating in their land and who knows that all of these westerners and Indians might fair very badly as well, as Pakistan has faired according to the report, in those polls if ever they will be conducted in the near future in all the regions of Afghanistan.

Brother raised extremely valid points - the actual audience of the poll was the UK and US public as it is becoming increasingly difficult for these countries to justify these expensive wars. They have their tails between their legs but are not able to find a place to cut and run - Afghanistan is another hell hole for them as Iraq was. They were humiliated there and they will be humiliated here as well as in Vietnam - SHAME!!!

Fake polls by fake agencies!! Yes your work speaks for you.Where was india when soviet union invaded afghanistan, sleeping or just being the opportunistic, true to it's nature. The agencies should have said '99% afghans support india and we could not get to the 1% because of exhaustive nature of the work.'
Afghans are a proud nation and they can not forget the sacrifices people of pakistan gave for them since 1979.
450 million untouchables are waiting for the work that india needs to do for them, more than 40% of child prostitutes are waiting too, and the 80 million child labor force is just loving what their motherland is dolling out to them while spending billions on welfare of the afghans.

What ever you Indian think or do, remember Afghanistan is part of Pakistan sooner

This survey must have been conducted in Kabul or Mazar sharif. Even Indian working in Kabul have taken refuge in a Gurdawara ( Media report)
The hearts of Afghan pashtuns and Pakistani are one and same.
