BC chan lakh Lahoriyon ke liye baki Punjab ka khoon kyu choosa jaa raha is chutiya Jangla bus aur narangi train ke waja se.

Stop this stupid jangla bus and make it a taxed traffic free highway. I bet any Lahori would easily pay 500rps per car for a quick and traffic free journey from one side of the city to the other on this jangla bus track.

Make it into a profit making project instead of a money sucking sinker.

Right but it is responsibility of city administration. Citizens of Lahore , especially the property owners , businessmen and traders, are indirectly benefiting from this project. They should pay for the subsidy. The mayor may levy a tax on Lahore businesses to cover it.
Punjab government can help to initiate the project but people of Punjab cannot carry this burden. that's unfair. The same is true for KP. In the end Peshawar city has to pay and earn from BRT.

Please stop playing games. The ideology and actions of noon league and its supporter are the most pro-rich and anti-poor. Calling Noon league and Shareef family for a champion of the lobor - in any context or manner- would be a cruel and insensitive joke.

In our system City government do not collect any taxes, all taxes are collected by provincial or federal government therefore they have to provide this subsidy. Shahbaz Sharif built this project to get fame and get votes to re-elect but this is how democracy works. You start public benefit projects because you will go to them again whereas in dictatorship you are not answerable to anyone. I am not commenting overall on PML(N) government but my comment was specific to this project. If Khan government want system changed to municipal system then he is free to do that.

I'm not opposed to subsidizing urban transport as long as it has a financially viable plan (i.e. it is profitable in terms of real estate taxes, property value, business expansion + revenue in the next 20-30 years) and the current financial situation allows for investment.
However that discussion is off now, The current administration is stuck with these two projects and abandoning them is not even an option. They have to own them. Rather imo, both projects need expansion and investment to cover a wider region for profitability/sustainability. This requires rethinking and reform> Yet it has to be made fairer to the people of Punjab. The current unfair and unsustainable model however cannot go on. The whole Punjab cannot keep subsidizing, pay for huge loans and stick with the current operators for an undermined time.
It requires less politics and more wisdom from the current administration to implement the needed changes.
Both projects (along with all liabilities) have to be handed over to the city. The city has to chalk out a sustainable plan; while the province helps it to achieve that.
I know of a similar but much larger metro project where at each stop the city has erected a tower with housing units and a shopping center - which partially pays for the running expenses. To rescue these two projects - they can be put under an independent public corporation, expand them further several kms on either side, increase the volume of local commuters in a reasonable times and let the corporation to develop projects/invest to generate revenue. Even local taxes are not the sole solution - especially for the elephant orange train project.

I have asked this question before as well; if Punjab metro projects are burden why there was a need of Pehawar BRT. Lahore Metro was built in 30 billion rupees and 11 month whereas Peshawar BRT has gone to 100 Billion and still after three years this project is incomplete and causing problem for day to day commuters. Mindset in all these projects was to win votes and there is nothing wrong in it as long as it benefit common man. When journalist went to see the success of Lahore metro they have said that it is so overloaded that Lahore can accommodate ten more projects like that easily. It is a population of 12.5 millions and these 12.5 million people pay property & income taxes which government is spending on them. It is very stupid thinking that other areas of Punjab fund is spent here and every year subsidy goes out these taxes. Has anyone ever questioned that why such an expensive subway system of New York, London and Toronto was built where along with City government, province and feds contributed huge. Governments cannot distribute cash, they have to facilitate people through these projects. Punjab has a budget of 5000 billion and they can easily afford one public transportation system of 50-100 billion every year which will go from development fund and not from health or education funds. KPK has a small budget that is why Peshawar BRT took 70 Billion loan from Asian Bank whereas Lahore metro ( 30 Billion) was built from Punjab's development budget.
