As I understand the post is not about the game or technique of cricket but about the merits used to select players. In this context I agree with the general concept of the narrative.
Having said that there is one caveat, that is all selections are made with references and there is nothing wrong with this because references are important.
What is happening in our country is that any selector who so ever it may be has a nephew or damaad who ALWAYS get selected for the highest level of game without having gone through the same process as others do.
To name a few that I know of;
Dr. Jahangir Khan--Majid khan -son
Javed Burki- nephew
Javed Miandad--- Faisal
Inzimam-ul-Haq--- Imam-ul Hak
Forgot name of selector---Azhar
If there is limited means/avenues to play and shine then only the privileged get the right chances and it is difficult to blame them although they are gaming the system.
We must devise a system to allow players to get chances to play, to demonstrate their talent and have means to do so for ALL games and not just cricket.
