Dr Zulfiqar Mirza ready to step-down to save coalition

BADIN: Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza said he was ready to step-down if it solved the conflict with the coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movoment (MQM), Geo News reported.

“The MQM is a democratic party and I accept its mandate,” Zulfiqar Mirza said.

Vitriolic statements by Zulfiqar Mirza against the MQM, who is also the Senior Vice President of Pakistan People’s Party Sindh, have been the bone of contention between the two parties.

It will be available on 90.
By the way, do you know the name of the LAWYERS, who were burnt by MQM.
Ask Aitizaz Ahsan,, he is one of those who performed GHAIBANA NAMAZ-e-JANAZA.

Why not first stop the illegal coming of that. Because after disarming, only rate will become high because of demand and supply.
Not a single factory in Karachi, Hyderabad or Sind.
It come by road. One can't take a dinner set with him illegally, dozen of CHUNGIS come from tribal areas to Karachi, but, illegal arms can easily come.

Dr. Zulfi Mirza claim that he has proves against MQM guys involved in target killing and different other crimes in Karachi.
Why dont he bring up those involved to the court, let the nation know about them.

He dont have to take all the blame on himself.
Justice will speak and world will see in bright sun light.

I am sure when ever these culprits will be exposed, MQM will disowned their own die hard workers.

Easier said than done...try spending a couple of nights in -20 degrees under an open sky cuz your democratic government couldn't provide them shelter after the floods but the democratic president could visit his palace ? and you want such democracy to continue ? you wanna experiment that on less fortunates cuz you have nothing to lose . PPP struggles to shore up coalition govt

PPP struggles to shore up coalition govt
    * Zardari phones Altaf Hussain, discusses MQM’s reservations

    * Zulfiqar Mirza likely to be given another ministry

    * Malik meets Fazl, fails to convince him into rejoining coalition govt

KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari telephoned Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain late on Wednesday and discussed his party’s reservations that led to its withdrawal from the federal cabinet.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik told reporters that a team of Pakistan People’s Party and MQM would sit together and resolve all issues and reservations. In this regard, he said that President Zardari has extended his stay to Karachi and he would stay in the city for another 10 days for preparation of a final written document to settle all issues with MQM once and for all. “No one can drive a wedge between PPP and the MQM,” he said, adding, “Those who wanted a fight between PPP and MQM will be disappointed.”

Separately, President Zardari met Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan late on Tuesday in a bid to salvage a threatened coalition government while Interior Minister Rehman Malik met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman asking him to rejoin the government, a request he turned down.

The meeting between President Zardari and Governor Ebad was aimed at addressing the concerns of the MQM and was held in the background of the party’s decision to quit the federal cabinet. The late night negotiations were initiated by Interior Minister Rehman Malik in a stormy visit to Karachi. President Zardari formed a two-member committee comprising the interior minister and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah to negotiate and resolve issues and reservations of the MQM. Ebad conveyed his party’s reservations to the president, who assured the former that all the reservations the MQM had would be resolved. Separately, Interior Minister Malik visited the Sindh Governor House’s and held a one-on-one meeting with the governor.

The relations between the PPP and MQM deteriorated after Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza made a provocative speech against the MQM, but a member of the MQM’s Coordination Committee denied that his party demanded his resignation. Mirza had earlier offered to step-down to save the coalition with MQM. Sources said he is likely to be given another ministry.

Rehman Malik held a meeting with Fazlur Rehman to urge him to rejoin the coalition government, but the latter stuck to his guns and refused to return, a private TV channel reported on Wednesday. The JUI-F chief said his party had endorsed the decision to part ways with the government and would not change its stance in the current circumstances. Rehman also refused to soften his stance on Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, saying he had “sabotaged the Pakistan People’s Party’s reconciliation policy”. masroor afzal pasha/daily times monitor.

PPP steps up bid to pacify allies; stalemate persists

ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan People’s Party continued on Wednesday its desperate attempts to woo the two estranged coalition partners —JUI-F and MQM —back into the government-fold, whereas the PML-N and MQM launched tirades of abuse against each other taking their war of words beyond civility.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani discussed the prevailing political situation with his cabinet colleagues minus MQM and JUI-F. And his party boss President Asif Zardari presided over a similar meeting of PPP’s provincial ministers and MPAs at the Bilawal House in Karachi.
Earlier, President Zardari sent Interior Minister Rehman Malik to the official residence of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to convey his ‘special message’ with a request for a ceasefire.
In the evening, people were stunned to see their national leaders and legislators on TV screens using abusive language and making personal attacks against each other outside the Parliament House.
Mr Malik, who has always been active in political wheeling dealings, rushed to the residence of Maulana Fazl at the Minister’s Enclave in Islamabad for a breakfast meeting hours before the latter’s departure for Saudi Arabia and requested him not to issue statements about the government and the PPP.
According to JUI-F sources, the Maulana reiterated his demand that President Zardari should replace Mr Gilani with another PPP nominee in order to save the present democratic set-up.
Meanwhile, in what appears to be a damage control move, Mr Zardari stopped all party members, particularly those belonging to Sindh, from issuing hostile statements against coalition partners.
Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar told Dawn that Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfikar Mirza had briefed the president on the law and order situation in Sindh in general and Karachi in particular.
Although Mr Babar declined to divulge details of the briefing, sources were of the opinion that the Sindh home minister must have apprised Mr Zardari of the background of his controversial speech in which he had alleged that the MQM was involved in target killings in Karachi.
Mr Babar said the president had called the interior minister to Karachi for making contacts with the MQM leadership. He said the president was hopeful that ‘misunderstandings’ between the two parties would be removed soon.
    Zardari calls Altaf
President Azif Ali Zardari called the London-based MQM chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday night and assured him that the PPP would soon address his party’s grievances.
According to TV channels, the call was made in the midst of a meeting between the President and Sindh Governor Ishratul Ibad at Bilawal House.

MQM, JUI-F agree to work together to mount pressure on PPP

MQM, JUI-F agree to work together to mount pressure on PPP

LAHORE: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F are reported to have decided to work ‘in unison’ to exert maximum pressure on the PPP for acceptance of their demands.
According to sources, Altaf Hussain and Maulana Fazlur Rahman have agreed to decide jointly whether or not to rejoin the government.
The JUI-F quit the federal government after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani removed its minister Azam Swati for ‘violating discipline’ and upped the ante by demanding Mr Gilani’s removal.
The MQM has announced that its minister will withdraw from the federal cabinet but its lawmakers will continue to sit on treasury benches.
Although PPP leaders and ministers have been saying in public that both the parties will eventually be back (in the government), but some of them are of the opinion that the JUI-F and MQM are quite smart and their leaders know how to make the PPP accept what they want.
“Their joining of hands means the PPP government will have to concede more to win them back,” a PPP leader told this reporter on Wednesday. He said the PPP leadership had been surprised by the way the two parties were playing their cards.“President Zardari and PM Gilani earlier hoped that their men would easily persuade the angry Maulana and Altaf Bhai to soften their stance, but the way they started mounting pressure on the government had bewildered the PPP big guns,” he said, adding that President Zardari had been forced for the first time to consider changing the portfolio of Sindh Home Minister Zulifkar Mirza whose ruthless attack on the MQM had sparked the crisis in the province.
He said that President Zardari had “admonished” Mr Mirza in the presence of other party leaders for his outburst against the MQM.
MQM’s parliamentary leader Farooq Sattar told Dawn that “Altaf Bhai had spoken to Maulana Fazl about cooperation for the sake of political stability and not specifically for an alliance to achieve common goals”. They had arrived at an understanding to work together for the sake of the country.
In fact, he said, the MQM wanted all other parties to work jointly to steer the country out of the crisis that it was facing.
“We are waiting for an action from the PPP leadership, and not mere words, and then we will decide whether to remain in the federal government,” said Mr Sattar who is in London for important meetings with Altaf Hussain.
PPP’s Central Information Secretary Fauzia Wahab said that President Zardari had made it clear that he would not let the MQM and JUI-F part ways with the government.
“This is a storm in a teacup and at the end of the day both MQM and JUI-F will be back in the government. We are in contact with the leadership of both parties and soon we will resolve the issues among ourselves,” she said, terming the demand of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to remove PM Gilani “childish”.
“President Zardari has already declared that in the next elections, Yousuf Raza Gilani will be the face of the PPP,” she said. The involvement of PML-N and MQM in bouts of mudslinging could not have come at a better time for the PPP which believes that the former has given a message to the latter that it (PML-N) would not allow the wrapping up of the present set-up.
“We are happy to see the war of words between the PML-N and MQM as it certainly has eased the pressure on us,” said another PPP leader thanking the PML-N for playing a “democratic role” in the current scenario.
