NOORAY KAR LO COPY PLEASE - Largest ever intra party elections underway in Pakistan - PressTV
The first phase of biggest ever intra party elections in the history of Pakistan are underway.
An estimated 7.5 million voters of Tehreek Insaaf Pakistan or PTI, the leading nationalist party, would elect 47 local leaders from each district of Pakistan.
Much of voting is taking place through mobile phones to facilitate the large number of voters in 180 million populated country. In the final phase, the newly elected local leaders would further elect the central leadership of PTI.
The PTI has emerged virtually from nowhere to everywhere in Pakistan primarily because of its strong opposition to country’s alliance with the US in so-called war on terror. The party has gained grounds by pointing out on how the ruling People Party is playing double game with people by publically condemning the drone attacks while secretly allowing American CIA to kill thousands of civilians in northwest of the country.
The party has been continuously holding anti US protests for years. And not long ago, it daringly gathered tens of thousands of people near the border of South Wazirestan, a Taliban insurgency hit tribal region and one of the favourite target of US drone attacks.
