KARACHI: Five sheep have been found dead with blood dripping out of their mouths at a compound near a private farm in District Malir, Geo News reported Wednesday.

According to a doctor at Sindh Livestock Department, the exact nature of the disease that the dead sheep suffered from would be ascertained in investigation. "However, it appears from the way these sheep bled from their mouth that they were sick," he added.

Meanwhile, a report had been received earlier which alleged that an attempt was made to hide the sheep imported from Australia. A government team, on an intelligence report, raided a compound near a private farm in Malir District and discovered the sheep kept hidden at the facility.

An Assistant Commissioner and a Mukhtarkar were part of the team that conducted the raid.

According to Deputy Commissioner Malir, Qazi Jan Muhammad around 3000 sheep were hidden away by the importer at a compound which had been sealed after recovering the sheep.

“We saw blood in the mouth of the animals found dead. Others also appeared sick. Their total number might be around between 3,000 and 4,000. The exact status of the sheep, however, could only be determined once we get electricity supplies,” he said, adding that the animals might have died of some disease but that could only be determined once samples were collected from the dead and injured sheep.
“We are in the process of identifying the farm owner, though it appears that the diseased sheep were separated from the herd and kept here in hiding,” he said.
Over 6,000 sheep have so far been culled by the government in the farm owned by PK Livestock which purchased 22,000 sheep from an Australian company. Government labs found the sheep infected with harmful bacteria and foot-and-mouth disease.

I am surprised how they reached Pakistan ,as they were destined for Qatar,may be someone purchased at 50% price or even less as it happens in Pakistan everyday but i am surprised by the behavior of media why they are reluctant to reveal the person or Co name who imported it,and why customs authorities allow these sick animals to enter.
Yar i am seriously thinking to sell everything i have and go and settled somewhere else if i cannot find any good place Bangladesh ya nepal he chala jao ga

I think you missed the news a couple of days back when the guy name Tariq Butt appeared on Geo new and explained he bought these sheep by paying a sum of 100 million for these 20000 sheep and i dont know if he was the real buyer or the front man of some influential person who just used him. On the TV he denied that why he have paid a good price which is equivalent to 5000 Rs/sheep if these were infected ..... it is also possible that Australian did a wrong deal with him ..... now Australian government is in action and i hope things will be clear in a couple of days ....

Here in Pakistan we are buying dead meat by daily basis in every big city. try to migerate to any europian country first and after when you will be settled it s very easy to move further to your favourite country.many guys coming by Lithuania.

KARACHI: The Department of Livestock Sindh has said that evidence has been gathered that points to the dead Australian sheep's being affected by the deadly Anthrax infection.
The day-to-day developments in connection with the Australian sheep's import to Pakistan continue to give a new twist to the story.

Only yesterday, the discovery of thousands of these sheep from a private compound in Malir District had raised new questions. Out of these, six were found dead with bleeding mouths. This is not it. More dead sheep were also discovered buried under ground and these had mouths infested with parasites.

Now a fresh disclosure hints at the dead sheep's being infected by the deadly Anthrax virus. Originally, it was believed that the sheep suffered from scabby mouth disease.

Due to the possible presence of Anthrax, the Department of Livestock has refused to get the post-mortem done on the dead sheep. The reason is clear. The deadly Anthrax virus can even kill the staff carrying out the post-mortem of the sheep.

Director Department of Livestock, Nazir Kalhoro has said that after the evidence hinting at presence of Anthrax, arrangements are now geing made to burry these sheep with the help of machines. Only those dead sheep will be put through post-mortem which had not contracted Anthrax, he added.

Meanwhile, as many as 1800 samples from the sheep have been sent for tests to the Livestock laboratories in Tando Jam, Karachi and Islamabad.

According to sources, the company that had imported the sheep has been served a letter in which it has been directed to prove the Anthrax claims of the investigation team wrong or get ready for a legal action
