Exclamation Syrian army in control of Tadamon, Qaboon and Barzeh neighborhoods - Press TV

Syrian troops have regained control of most parts of the Damascus neighborhood of Sayyida Zainab after government forces launched an all-out offensive against the armed rebels in the capital, Press TV reports.

Syrian security forces dealt heavy blows to anti-government rebels who rushed to areas close to the Sayyida Zainab neighborhood after coming under attack in various parts of the capital.

Troops are fighting with the militants now to completely clear the mainly Shia Muslim neighborhood of the rebels.

About 5,000 Shia Muslims, including those who have fled violence in other part of the capital, are living in the neighborhood.

The youths in the region, armed with sticks and knives, have formed committees to protect the holy shrine of Sayyida Zainab, the daughter of Imam Ali (PBUH), and the neighboring areas.
Several members of the committees have been martyred or injured in different clashes with armed rebels.

The rebels have killed a number of Shia residents of the area or expelled them from their homes several times.

Reports say the armed groups have also denied food and water supplies to the region on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.

Syrian troops also succeeded to retake the control of the Imam Khomeini Hospital in Damascus which was for a while under armed rebels’ control.

Fierce clashes between government forces and the rebels are being reported in other areas including Jubar, Mazzeh and Kfar Sousa.

Troops on Friday recaptured the key southern neighborhood of al-Midan during an operation aimed at clearing the city of the rebels.

Security sources say the army is now also in control of Tadamon, Qaboon and Barzeh neighborhoods.

The major offensive against the armed groups comes a few days after a terrorist bomb blast left defense minister Dawood Rajha and several other high-ranking officials dead.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, with demonstrations being held both against and in support of President Bashar al-Assad's government.

The Syrian government says outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorists are the driving factor behind the unrest and deadly violence while the opposition accuses the security forces of being behind the killings.

and in my opinion you are not doing anything different... you are not feeling bad for all syrians, you post is focusing on shia syrians and no doubt coz this news is from press TV... if you want to be neutral then come out of this shia and sunni crap and talk about humanity... which was crushed by asad's father and he is doing right now...

ok.lets say they r crushing their people.
does that give any legitimacy to the rebels to receive arms from the nations who r killers of millions of muslims like USA,UK and Israel and do suicide bomb attacks on public places and killing innocents. This makes them mujahid or worst terrorist?
i have already said that i dont support his murder,so dont ask me again.

and if u think that Lady Zainab(s.a) belongs to shias only,i feel pity for u.

and again its u ppl who r trying to make it a shia-sunni issue.
Do you think that the people of Tunis got arms and ammunition from the West and Israel to kick Zain Al Abedin out or they received support from the west to throw Mubarak out or the people of Yemen received arms and ammunition from the west to force Saleh to leave. The mere fact is that there is a limit to everything. The people in the middle east have finally realized that enough is enough and they have to get of rid of these tyrants who have appointed themselves or have inherited power. Some of these have fallen and I am sure that illegitimate regime of Asad will go away as will the regime of Khalifa or the house of Saud or the Emirs of Kuwait. There time will come. But there are people who will always look at it from the narrow sectarian perspective without any consideration for fairness, human values, freedoms etc.

I am sorry to say, even though you may not have said it, but its pretty evident from your posts that you have a bent. Lets report the story as you would report the story about the uprising in Bahrain. Lets be on the side of the oppressed people and not the tyrants no matter which sect they belong to.

Ali bhai jaan, you are still seeing the rebels as 'sectarian' rebels. I take it that they may have sectarian bent and I don't want to get into chicken and egg argument. Lot of people said that Egypt will lose out if MB came into power or that Libya will be doomed if Qaddafi fell and may be for a little while these places may be chaotic - after all revolutions are never smooth and cordial affairs. But, would you blame the authoritarian regimes and rulers for this mess or the people who rise up against them? If Asad had not used his military which is definitely controlled and run by the Alawites then it would have not given the sunnis the reason to rise up just as they did. Imagine the reverse in Bahrain - what do you expect the rebels in Manama would do to the people and groups who have been sympathetic or aligned with the rulers of Bahrain?

May be I am not understanding you but your point that you don't want bloodshed is appreciable but you are stopping short of saying that the iligetimate, autocratic, dictatorial and authoritarian regime of Asad should end now. I blame all the dictators who consider their right by birth to rule the countries for all these deaths and destruction and no one else.

you need some medical assistance... you care about shrine and ppl who are died centuries ago but you don't care about ppl who are alive and facing the brutality of regime... i know why you care about receiving weapons from west because the ppl who are fighting against Syrians are fighting against iran cause, so your sympathies are with Iran and nothing else.. so once again come out of the shell of shiaisam and think about humanity...

And about receiving weapons from west ... where Syria govt is getting all these weapon (Russia) and Iran (Russia), Since when Russia become Muslim country... think a bit before replying back...
