Michael distributes scholarship cheques to minority students

Rawalpindi—PML-N Senator Kamran Michael on Wednesday distributed scholarship cheques among minority students of Rawalpindi and Jhelum districts, who secured more than 70 per cent marks in annual examinations of different classes.

The cheques, amounting to Rs 3, 25.000, were distributed among 10 students of the two districts in a ceremony held here at the Commissioner Office for showing excellent performance in the annual examinations of Intermediate, B.A/B.Sc, M.A/M.Sc and M. Phil. Addressing the ceremony, Michael said the provincial government of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) was committed to providing maximum facilities to minority students so that they could play more effective role in progress and prosperity of the country.

He said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has launched a special programme under which the minority students securing more than 70 per cent marks were awarded with scholarships to encourage them , adding “The scholarship amount will be doubled by next year.”

He said a quota has also been allocated for minority students in the vocational educational and training centers operating across the province where they would be imparted quality education, transforming them into skilled workforce in line with the need of international markets.

Member National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed, Member Provincial Assembly Raja Muhammad Haneef Advocate and Additional Commissioner Chaudhry Habibullah were also present on the occasion. MNA Malik Abrar said the Punjab government was making all-out efforts to protect rights of minorities living in the country.

“We are working to allocate a scholarship quota for minority students at every level besides making efforts to increase their number of minorities’ seats in the National Assembly.”—APP

Re: Michael distributes scholarship cheques to minority students

Good step. Minorities in Pakistan are only for toilet cleaning. They should be fully part of society and there should be non racism or quota system. Our people enjoy all the benefits when they go abroad but when it comes to their own country they treat no Muslims like an enemy.
