    ISLAMABAD: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

    I was just chatting with @Waseem
    (Islamabad area)and a friend of mine in Lahore. Both of them said earth quake on the messenger at the same time and ran out of the house.

    ISLAMABAD: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.
    The tremors were felt for 35 seconds around 7:01pm. The epicentre is reported to be the Hindu Kush region.
    The earthquake was felt in the capital Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Sargodha, Chitral and Haripur.
    Panic gripped the affected areas with people seen rushing for safety and reciting verses from the Holy Quran.

    Strong earthquake hits Pakistan

    Islamabad: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck large swathes of Pakistan, including Punjab,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northwsestern tribal region on Thursday.

    According to reports, the tremors shook the areas around 30 seconds, spreading panic among the people. Residents came out of their houses, reciting verses from the holy Quran. Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz told that the quake was recorded 6.1 magnitude on the Richter scale while it was centered in Hindu Kush region about 357 kilometers from Islamabad . TV reports said the tremors were felt in Islamabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodah, Dera Ismail Khan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Mardan, North Waziristan, Swat, Hangu, Battagram, Nowshera an Hazara division. No loss of life and property have been reported from the affected areas so far.

    Earthquake of magnitude 5.8 rocks north India

    New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 5.8 on the Richter scale hit northern part of India on Thursday. Mild tremors were felt in the states of Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan.
    According to reports, the epicentre of the earthquake was the Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan.
    Tremors were felt in Pakistan as well. A powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan on Thursday though there were no reports of casualties or damage to property.

    The temblor, which lasted about five seconds, occurred at about 7 pm and was followed by powerful aftershocks. It was felt in Islamabad, Lahore and other parts of Punjab, Peshawar and across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
    At several places, people rushed out of buildings and began praying. Officials said they had not received any reports of casualties or damage to property.

    ISLAMABAD:Buildings shook in Pakistan and Afghanistan as an earthquake struck in thenorthern Hindu Kush region on Thursday, according to a preliminary report bythe US Geological Survey.

    Inthe Afghan capital Kabul, the earthquake was measured at 5.8 in the Richterscale while in Pakistan, the quake hit various cities from capital Islamabaddown to the Punjab province.

    Theareas hit in Pakistan included Islamabad, as well as Charsadda, Mardan,Nowshera, Swabi, Buner, Malakand, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Orakzai Agency,Momand Agency and in Punjab, the affected region included Lahore, Faisalabad,Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Mandi Bahauddin.

    Therewere no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

    InKabul, office workers felt their chairs shake briefly and desk lamps swayed asthe tremor hit.

    Thequake struck some 72 kilometers south east of Faizabad, capital of Badakhshanprovince, and 121 kilometers northwest of Chitral in Pakistan at a depth of 190kilometers, the USGS said.

    NorthernAfghanistan and Pakistan are frequently hit by earthquakes, especially in theHindu Kush, which lies near the collision of the Eurasian and Indian tectonicplates.
