I do read him and find his articles interesting so far as he brings up the problem of military establishment's interference in our government and mostly how flawed their strategy is towards our foreign policy goals.

I am not sure about his background. But, then he is an opinion maker and could have a bent. I can understand that he can't be considered an objective analyst if he blindly supports the PPP.

I think that Pakistan's problems are not that daunting to solve if common sense approach is employed and if the solutions are urgently applied. The situation is getting worse since the powers to be are short sighted and they only care about their immediate family and friends and give a rat's @$$ about the general public or the country. They have all hedged their bets with massive amount of accumulated wealth and safe havens overseas. The problem is that people on the left and right who are on the extreme ends of the ideological spectrum (and don't have any intention to flee) are the ones who are messing things up and don't see the urgency. The people on the extreme right won't be happy until we become Saudi Arabi lite or Afghan Taliban v2. The ones on the left don't want to consider the cultural or religious sensibilities of the larger population and would no be happy until we become a clone of a western democracy. Throw in the massive corrupt political mafia in the mix, which is a cabal of military establishment, feudal class, extremely wealthy business elites, religious demagogues, bureaucracy and last but not the least the corrupt politicians who are either part of these groups or are proxies to protect the interests of these groups, and we get today's pakistan. All of these groups are hunkered down just to protect their own interests and not willing to listen to each other and busy looting.

Just the thought that we will be the 4th most populated country by 2050 with the kinds of problems we are facing today is downright scary! There is not a single word from anyone about the most pressing problem we face today which is the explosive population growth.

Any improvement over the fiasco we are calling a government will be considered a huge achievement.

@mrk123 To be honest i thought he was ok a while ago but the more i read his articles the more i have come to believe he is another one who thinks he is an intellectual giant but is very narrow minded and heavily biased towards PPP. His basic mantra is the army is behind every evil ikn pak - wont admit to any wrongs committed by PPP and its allies and will write top notch dribble to find faults in any1 who tries to challenge the mafia.

I support PTI and hold IK in high esteem but that's because he isn't corrupt and talks about policy approaches which make sense to me because i work in that type of environment where we discuss governance issues on a daily basis and look at examples across the world. I'm not saying i'm an intellectual genius but if some1 with my simple background can understand and comprehend IK approach and his views about governance and education transformation then i guess he is articulating it in a clear way. Unfortunately we then have Kamran Shafi and his ILK who try to confuse the mind of the masses by trying to portray his approach as fudged, confused, without any clear road map because it doesnt serve the interest of his masters in the PPP.

I asked Kamran Shafi whether he thought Bhutto wasn't corrupt (sent him a link to Raymond Bakers book and asked his view) and whether Zulfikar Bhutto wasn't a civil despot who abused his power his response was that PTI thinks everyone other than them is the devil and they angels. His level of thinking is like a common jiyala - the bhuttos can do whatever they want because they are the modern equivalent of pirs (walis) and we have to be ready for the transfer of power to ther next generation because its ther god given right to screw and rule over the poor miserable sods in Pak.

To give him credit - Ik has talked about the population growth and youth bulge as a potential opportunity if it is manged properly and channeled to the benefit of our country. If it isnt then like u said its a going to be a potential disaster which will make today's mess look like child's play. If u look around the world ther are loads of examples wher ppl have started focusing on governance, education, infrastructure and social development to start addressing these issues. Some of the stuff being done by Nitish kumar in Bihar shows that small n simple steps can make a big difference, however it requires leadership and sincerity.

Inshallah with the grace of the Allmighty we will overcome this bunch of morons but its going to take some effort.

As you described we have been polarized along ethnic, religious, lines because the masses in our country follow a cult of personality which is used n abused by our left n right leaning political n military leadership. For me anyone who can combine the best of both and take a middle approach will probably b able to bring the masses with them. If u look at what Erdogan has done in Turkey it provides a bit of a road map. He himself comes with a social religious background, however he hasn't tried to force this down every1s throat. His approach up to now has been that we will prove ourselves through our behavior and through impact.

Just like he did when he became a minister in the Military regime in the early 80s, whilst he and his bro were Chief Minister(s) of Punjab n then when he was Prime Minister. I just long for those days when they were in control and in power, cause Pak was like paradise then and just look at Punjab now - every child has access to high quality education, every family has access to world class health facilities, housing, environment, every working age man and women can find employment, overseas investors are lining up to build up the economy.

I criticize all of them and PTI the most because we already know what PPP and N are capable of but PTI with a slogan of change is doing exactly the same (up till now its inductions as well as behaviour) and its followers are as impudent as the word has been defined in the dictionary.
