After a long and tiring day at work, when I returned home and switched the television on for my daily dose of news, I happened to tune into the famous Urdu news channel, suddenly a red bold colored blinking “BREAKING NEWS” word appeared covering half of the TV screen with a terrible sound in the middle of a talk show and the news appeared after it was:


“ Adakara Meera k ghar se shadi ki anoothi chori”

“Actress Meera’s wedding ring stolen from her house”


Later the ring was found from the drawer of Meera’s room.


I changed the channel and the next Aham khabar(Important news) was


“70 salaa baba g ne 18 saal ki larki se shadi racha li ”

“70 years Old man marries 18 year girl”


Have u ever questioned yourself that: Is this the kind of media we need?


News Channels have made breaking news worthless. Instead of showing real news which is concerned to people worthless news, Sensationalized stories of crime scenes (especially of rape), Shaadi (Marriage) shows are being aired in the race of getting more viewership and to attract advertisers. For the TRP factor news channels are ready to go to any extent, It is dreadful to see such a lame and ridiculous things being aired, Sometimes even the content is such a filthy and unethical that the viewer curse on the “freedom of press” and Sometimes media outlets propagate and create hype over various issues at such an extreme level that it makes people zehni Mareez who are already suffering from their problems, People have been made hostages, and they are being shown things which are not important or concerned to them.


Propagation and corruption have become an essential element in most of the media outlets, there are many examples of it, one of my friends is a reporter of some news channel, we met after a long time he told me a creepy
story,

(He)“Yar aaj 10,000 ki dihaari laga k araha hun”

“I have earned 10 thousand today”

I asked him how? He said: “there was an illegal activity going around in the area of ******* lhr. I threatened SHO (Police Office) to air the news of his area on my TV channel and he offered me 10,000 for not reporting it, and I ACCEPTED”.


This is the one example of corruption of low level and u can imagine the corruption at upper level, there is corruption from top to bottom in Media organizations; Media persons talk lot about the accountability of Politicians, bureaucrats and institutions but who would hold them accountable? We must acknowledge that like democracy our media is also very immature, it is in the process of evolution.


Ignoring the worthless, superstitious stuff and TRP(Target Rating Point) prospect the media should rather focus on the problems of a common man. Inflation, crime rate, poverty is increasing day by day, Problems of people are still there, poor are dying and corruption is at its highest level. Media should bring a change in its non-serious attitude because people can’t tolerating it anymore. I pray Our media concentrate on real issues of the NATION, hope for the best
