Aftab Iqbal, Haroon ur Rasheed & recent episodes of Khabarnaak

Recently, Aftab Iqbal has made a joke on Haroon ur Rasheed, who is a well-known Pakistani columnist and intellectual, in the usual get-up role played by Mir Mohammad Ali in Khabarnaak. What came as an irony is that his character was talking about the nation not bothering to read Naseem Hijazi’s books any more.
It then turned to the usual fun-making by singing a song and making dancing moves sitting on the seat. Going a bit beyond, the show portrayed in the get-up character that Mir Ali performed, Haroon Sahab holds a taste for ‘mujra’. By having such acts and skits as part of his show, Aftab is actually showing who is interested in‘mujra’. The answer is obvious, it is him who is. As every thing looks good within limit so does humour. There is only as much freedom to do comedy as is within respectable bounds.
Alot of the people have found this to be insulting to Haroon ur Rasheed and took this as a biasedness from Aftab who is often considered to side with PML-N. Aftab picks on other political parties but he has been known to go against Imran Khan specifically in an overboard manner.
PTI has become undoubtedly the most desired political party in the country for the silent masses and particularly the youth who want to see a fresh leader and a new face taking them to newer places of higher grounds. Aftab has never shown any likeness for any politician in the country, which is understandable, but when he sides with PML-N and subtly tries to present their points of views and little works as great gestures on nationally broadcasted private channel, Geo News, it is a clear violation of being an honest journalist and sincere work ethnics of a political-satire programme’s host.
Needless to say, those nations that do not respect their own intellectuals can never move ahead in the world of today, because they are dishonoring their guides and visionaries. May be this is a lesson some like Aftab has forgotten to hold onto. One can disagree with another’s pointof view, but should say so in a respectable sense with proper terms and not give a cheap gimmick of making such a mockery. It does nothing to harm the reputation of Haroon ur Rasheed, but has lowered the image of Aftab amongst the viewers.
Some would say that being a political satire show such things should not be taken seriously, but on the other hand, it would be losing sight of the main purpose of such a show in the first place if it is not to symbolize whatever is being said in real sense. Hence, making fun of Haroon ur Rasheed meant that he is worthy of being laughed at outside of the show too, as presented by Aftab who scripts the show himself.
The other actors are just the performers, who are also often insulted directly on the show for lacking ‘intelligence’ that only Aftab claims to possess. A lot of the people are asking that either the channel asks Aftab to leave the show and gets a new host or shut down the show altogether. Some say that such tactics by Aftab was one of the reasons why he had to leave the show ‘Haab-e-Haal’' that he used to do earlier on Dunya TV. Viewers and concerned citizens are also asking to complain against him to Geo TV on his behavior. As a TV host, he should be neutral rather than being a mouth-piece of PML-N.0 Thanks, 0 Likes, 0 Dislikes
